SEMINAR
Topic: Photoinduced Spatial-Temporal Pattern in Photorefractive Crystals
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Nickolai Kukhtarev
Date & Time: Friday, March 2, 2001, 2:00 P.M.
Place: Room 140 VMC
ABSTRACT
Manifestation of real-time Holography in spatial-temporal pattern formation (STPF) and its application in signal processing will be discussed. A brief review of experimental results on STPF in photorefractive crystals such as BSO, and KNbO3 will also be given. Two special cases will be considered: hexagonal scattering in KNbO3 and space charge domain formation in BSO crystals.
Prof. N. Kukharev graduated in Radiophysics and Electronics from Kharkov University (Ukraine). He received his Ph.D. in 1973 and Halibuts degree in Physical-Mathematical Sciences from Institute of Physics (Kiev, Ukraine). Dr. Kukhtarev's specialty is in nonlinear optics and solid state physics. His major field of study has been in dynamic holography and photorefractive physics where he is among the founders. He has published the world's first book on Dynamic Holography in 1983 and several invited book chapters. Dr. Kukhtarev is a referee for many prestigious journals, He has supervised Ph.D. and MS students, and has been repeatedly invited to be in the program committees of international conferences on photorefractive materials (1987,1990, 1993, and 2000) and chaired conferences on optics of photorefractive and liquid crystals (1994, 1997, and 2000). Prof. Kukharev is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA).
